Students injured

Two students were reported injured at 9:30 p.m. April 28 at the University Soccer Field. El Paso Fire Medical Services responded to the scene. One of the two students was taken to Thomason Hospital, the other refused transport to a medical facility.

Auto theft

A student reported that her red 2004 Nissan Titan was stolen April 28 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 7:35 p.m. at the Sun Bowl parking lot. The student said her keys were stolen from the bleacher area of Kidd Field.

Painting stolen

A student reported her painting was stolen in between 2 p.m. April 23 and 4:30 p.m. April 28 at the Fox Fine Arts building. She said the artwork was rolled up and placed on a storage shelf.

Stormwater meeting

UTEP's College of Engineering is presenting "Signs of Progress" April 30 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Physical Science Building, Room 115.

Christina Montoya, El Paso Water Utilities vice president of communications and marketing, will be the speaker of the event. Topics include the accomplishments of the Stormwater Utility.

University receives grant money

Congressman Silvestre Reyes (D-Texas) announced April 29 that the National Science Foundation awarded more than $500,000 in federal grants for UTEP research.

The NSF Division of Information & Intelligent Systems gave $315,000, over three years, to UTEP's Department of Computer science, in conjunction with the departments of psychology, biological sciences and industrial and civil engineering. The grant will help UTEP's summer research experiences for undergraduates program, which is headed by professor Olac Fuentes.

The NSF Division of Earth Sciences will also give a $194,400 grant to support a UTEP projected called, "Collaborative Research: Application of Fe and Zn isotopes to fingerprint, track and quantify metal fluxes in streams and groundwater in alpine watersheds.
