Sumter's goal seals weekend sweep
The UTEP soccer team was able to overcome tough battles from not only their opponents on the field, but against the elements of Mother Nature to secure their first Miner's Classic title since the 2006 season. A mix of cold wind and a soggy grass did little to hold back the Miners over wins against Texas State and Louisiana-Lafayette in a pair of 1-0 thrillers over the weekend at University Field.

The UTEP soccer team has established the tradition of winning under head coach Kevin Cross, posting double-digit win totals in six-straight years and at least 13 wins over the last four seasons. UTEP home opener sold out UTEP's Sept. 6 home opener is a sellout. The finak 1,800 tickets, that also included 300 standing-room only tickets, sold out monday around noon. Utep students still have a chance to attend the game with 10,000 tickets remaining, but are limited to one per student.
