Kern Place parking restrictions affect students
The El Paso City Council's ruling on Jan. 8 brings bad news to students who park in the streets surrounding Kern Place. Beginning Jan. 21, any vehicles not displaying residential parking permits between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays, will be fined or towed.

Financial aid still available for 2007-2008
There is still time for UTEP students to apply for financial aid for the 2007-2008 academic year. Jose Torres, assistant director for the Office of Student Financial Aid, said if a student is in good academic standing and remained enrolled in 75 percent of their classes last semester, they may still be eligible for financial aid for the fall, spring and summer semesters.

Bitter cold temperatures, tight living quarters and lost luggage didn't prevent the UTEP research team that traveled to Antarctica over the winter break from accomplishing their mission. International Polar Year - Research Opportunities for Minorities, a UTEP program, gave students from across the country the opportunity to participate in the three-week research trip to the Antarctic Peninsula.

UTEP research featured at California Science Center The research of UTEP chemistry professor Carl Dirk is being featured at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, at an exhibit called "Fade: The Dark Side of Light" through May 2008. The exhibit focuses on how exposure to light can change the appearance of objects and how these changes can damage historical documents.

"I've been given a second chance," said Leigh Hill, a former New Orleans resident, as she sits nearly hidden behind a large wooden counter.
