Every year, thousands of college students from all over the country get a reprieve from their studies and are given the opportunity to let their hair down in the middle of a semester of hard work. This year, UTEP has been extra nice and given us two extra days to party.

On March 20, we will have reached the fifth anniversary of the start of the war on Iraq.
It is time to undergo a soul-searching, cost-benefit analysis of what the hell our military and tax dollars are doing there.
What is this costing us? What are we gaining?
If we cannot intelligently answer these questions, what does that reveal about the state of our republic?
While the prevailing answers to these two questions thus far have never been sufficient, the cost of this war in human suffering (Iraqi and American) and money spent, has reached a point where we can no longer hum a happy tune, wave the flag, slap a yellow ribbon on a Hummer SUV and call it a day.

Presidential candidates March 18 letters to the editor were once again a testament to ongoing presidential support by publications of our day. As the students argued for their candidate of choice, I would like to take a step back and set some records straight.
