2022 British Open Leaderboard: Live coverage, Tiger Woods score, golf scores from today’s Round 2 at St Andrews

At the 150th Open Championship, PGA Tour player Cameron Young made his debut atop the leaderboard as he stood two shots clear after the opening round. The Wake Forest product will finally enter the winner’s circle after tying the lowest first round ever by a first-timer at The Open and finishing as runner-up on three different occasions this season.

Young will have his work cut out for him as 2014 champion golfer Rory McIlroy sits alone entering Round 2 on Friday. McIlroy is looking for his first major win since 2014 and wants to shake off his still impressive top 10 finishes that have highlighted his first three performances this season. While McIlroy is Young’s closest follower, Dustin Johnson leapfrogged him on the leaderboard after the morning session, sitting at 9 under after 36 holes. Johnson, Young, McIlroy and 2022 Masters champion Scotty Scheffler lead as Round 2 continues.

Unfortunately, Tiger Woods is neither at the top of the leaderboard nor in contention. Quite the opposite, in fact, Tiger followed up a 6-over 78 on Thursday with a 2-over 75 on Friday to sit at 9 over for the tournament and miss the cut. Woods has not played on consecutive weekends in back-to-back Opens (2019) and back-to-back trips to St. Andrews (2015), which he calls his favorite golf course in the world. Tiger broke down in tears as he took an emotional walk down the fairway on Friday, though he didn’t stop as he waved at the Swilken Bridge, indicating he’ll try to return to the old course at least one more time before his career ends.
