City officials say the first case of the virus has been reported in a family in the Colombian district that includes monkey flu.

The DC Health Department said the resident is being isolated and “does not pose a risk to the public.”

The case of Orthobox, a family of viruses that contained the monkey box, was reported Saturday to someone who said they had recently traveled to Europe, according to the department.

The collected samples have been sent to the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for further testing and confirmation of monkey flu, the health ministry said.

The case of monkey flu in Virginia is the state’s first case in recent development

Monkeypox is a rare but serious viral disease that is spread from person to person through direct contact with body fluids or monkey sores. It is harder to transmit and easier to control than most contagious viruses like this Corona virus.

Monkey pox is rarely malignant and due to its resemblance to gonorrhea, gonorrhea infections can be treated with antiviral drugs and vaccines in stock. To prevent serious illness, vaccines may be given shortly after exposure.

The U.S. Department of Health says there are currently 25 cases of monkey flu in the United States.

It was not immediately clear which orthodox box the infected monkey box might be.
