ATLANTA — No. 1 Georgia hasn’t won the SEC Championship Game since 2017, but the Bulldogs have been through three quarters of No. 14 LSU leads 42-23 and looks to end the drought. They used a punishing rushing attack in the third quarter, including Kenny McIntosh’s 2-yard touchdown with 3:32 to play. The Bulldogs are averaging 5.8 yards per rush through three quarters as Kendall Milton leads the way with 96 yards on six carries.
LSU came alive a little bit by halftime. Redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier stepped in for the injured Jayden Daniels and started tearing it up while bringing some much-needed life to the Tigers’ offense. He hit Malik Nabors for a 34-yard touchdown with 10:33 to play in the quarter and tossed a 59-yarder to Nabors moments later. Nusmeier was 5 of 8 for 129 yards and a touchdown to Nabors in the third quarter alone.
The game is scattered with some unusual games. Got the Dawgs A wild interception On the first play of the second quarter, safety Christopher Smith broke up Daniels’ pass to Jack Beck. That’s when Pekin chased the helmet and linebacker Smell Monton hit junior Georgia QB Stetson Bennett IV Ladd McConkey for a 22-yarder. Touchdown on the next play to make it a 21-7 game. In the first quarter, Georgia’s Naseer Stackhouse blocked Damian Ramos’ 32-yard field goal attempt. The ball almost stopped at the 4-yard line, but Smith did He took it and ran to the left side for a 96-yard touchdown for the game’s first score.
Georgia is 15 minutes away from not only winning the SEC title, but the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff as it seeks to defend its national championship.
