The win gives Curry, Clay Thompson and Tremond Green a fourth title – under head coach Steve Kerrin – who added to the 2015, 2017 and 2018 championships. They have won 21 NBA Finals together. Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili (19) have won the most NBA Finals in the last 30 years.
Charlie, who was in tears on the court after the final whistle, won the NBA Finals MVP Awards for the first time in his career.
“This is what we are playing for the championship and what we have been doing for the last three years,” he said. “At the start of the season, no one thought we’ve been here except for everyone on this court now, which is amazing. Very surreal, though.
“You would not take this as an order because you never know when you’ve going back here. And to come back here and get it done, it’s the world,” he said.
The title is a setback for the Warriors as they have been sidelined with injuries for two years and returned to the postseason for the first time since 2019.
Golden State scored 52-25 at the end of the first half. That includes 21-0 – the longest-running run in the NBA Finals game in 50 years.
The Celtics reduced the Warriors’ lead to single digits later in the third quarter and again in the fourth quarter, but could not get close.
Boston advanced to the final for the first time since the 2009-10 season, having previously excelled in the playoffs or folds this year in the playoffs.
They were not defeated in subsequent games following the defeat until they lost their 5th game in this final. They have won two win-or-home games against the Milwaukee Bucks and game 7 against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Final.
The Celtics advanced 2-1 in the series before losing three straight to Golden State, including Games 4 and 6 in Boston.
“There are a lot of guys out there who are very emotional right now,” Celtics head coach Ime Utoka said after the game.
“We thank them for all the effort and development they have allowed us through this year’s training wise. The biggest message is, ‘Learn from this, grow from this, take this experience and see if there is another level to gain.’ ‘ “It’s clear in a number of ways that a group like Golden State did that.”
This is the Warriors’ seventh league title.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who presented the Larry O’Brien Trophy to the NBA Champion, did not attend Games 5 or 6 due to the NBA’s health and safety ethics.
