The NIAID said that Fauci found that he was positive only on rapid antigen testing. The director will work from home and follow agency protocol, only to return to the National Institutes of Health campus after a negative test.
The company said Fauci had not recently had close contact with Biden or other senior executives.
Throughout the epidemic, he stressed the warning and expressed it at public events. For example, he did not want to attend the White House’s annual reporters’ dinner in April because of his personal risk.
“Each of us, in our own way, needs to evaluate what risk you are willing to take in the event of an infection,” he told CNN. “Generally, the risk is low, but I did a personal assessment. I’m 81 years old and I have a higher risk if I get an infection.”
He has been the Director of NIAID since 1984 and has advised seven Presidents.
Fauzi joins a growing list of Biden executive leaders with Covit-19 disease, including White House Domestic Policy Adviser Susan Rice, Attorney General Merrick Garland, Vice President Kamala Harris and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimonto.
